Sunken Patio

We first met with our customer in the spring of 2020. They explained that their backyard would flood and because their home was built too low, having a partial basement exposure, they would have water coming in through the windows. They needed a solution that would give them a great patio space and somehow block the water from getting near the home.

Wirth came up with the idea of building this space surrounded by a freestanding wall and raising the grade on the perimeter to redirect the water when the backyard floods. It worked perfectly and their home has been dry since. As a added precautionary step, we drilled 12" wide hole downs to the drain tile in the event the wall was breached with water.

The product that was chosen was Belgard Tandem Wall and Urbana pavers.
